Your Event Guide

Holidays, weddings, and birthdays are just a few of those milestones where we all want to look and feel our best.  Aesthetic treatments such as wrinkle relaxers, injectable fillers, biostimulators and other aesthetic skin treatments can help boost your confidence.  It can be overwhelming to figure out when to schedule your procedures, what procedures can be performed concurrently and when to book a sequence before your big day.

Your skin is the body’s largest organ with many jobs to do and needs time to adjust and heal after any aesthetic treatment. Some of today’s most popular skin rejuvenating treatments work by deliberately triggering your skin’s healing factors to boost blood flow, collagen production, and new skin cell generation. For this reason, it is advisable to strategically plan your procedures to optimize your results.  It is important to work with your aesthetic practitioner to come up with the best treatment plan for you.  In many cases, you may want to start anywhere between 3 weeks to 6 months in advance, depending on your goals of treatment.

Timing your aesthetic treatments can depend on various factors. There are many factors to consider, including downtime, sun exposure, and when the results will be most noticeable. Next, we need to determine your goals. Are they realistic? Are we looking at a single procedure or a series of treatments?  Your practitioner will also consider your skin type and sensitivity, your medical history and the procedure or treatments in question.  Everyone is different and our team at the B.A.R. Med Spa can recommend a timeline that is right for you. Here are some general guidelines that may help you schedule your holiday treatments and can be applied to your preparation for any big event:

1 – 3 weeks prior to your event:

Dermaplaning, microneedling, chemical peels, and other topical treatments can typically be scheduled one to three weeks before your occasion. This allows time for any redness, swelling, or other side effects to calm down, leaving your skin glowing and refreshed. It’s important to be mindful of your skin’s sensitivity after a chemical peel or microneedle treatment. Avoiding sun exposure and irritating skin products gives your skin the best chance to heal quickly and beautifully. Your provider will give you specific post-treatment care products and instructions that you should follow closely for the best results.

3 – 6 weeks prior to your event:

Wrinkle relaxers like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify reach their peak of action at two weeks. You should plan to see your licensed injector at least three to six weeks beforehand to allow for your products to fully kick in and to allow for minor tweaks and fine tuning before your big day.  Dermal fillers look their best when swelling has subsided and the products begin to integrate with your natural tissues.  We usually recommend at least 4 weeks for optimal results.  While Groupons or Botox and filler parties can seem like fun, the potential risks aren’t worth it. You are best served in a controlled environment with a provider that will work with you on your aesthetic journey. “Groupons and other money savings are great for bowling and birthday parties, but we are dealing with your face here”. Kathy says, “The amount of money you save in the short term will never make up for safety concerns that may occur in an uncontrolled environment or by an unlicensed practitioner. Plus, it is important for your injector to know what procedures you have had previously and that becomes impossible when you jump from provider to provider.  Find a practitioner that you want to work with for an on-going treatment plan.”

 6+ months and ongoing management:

Some procedures will require more than one session to see desired results.  Broadband light therapies like IPL and photo facials are incredibly effective for boosting collagen, uneven skin tone, sun damage and rosacea.  Microneedling can address skin texture and acne scarring.  PRP/PRF use your body’s own cells to regenerate the skin and hair.   Biostimulators like Sculptra or Radiesse are often used to improve the skin tone, age related volume loss and more and more as a preventative approach with our younger clients.  These treatments usually work best in a series of three to six treatments, depending on the severity of the conditions being addressed, and usually require ongoing maintenance quarterly, biannually or annually to maintain your desired results. The number and frequency of treatments will vary from person to person.  Your provider can work with you to determine what treatments are right for you. It is important to allow enough time before your big day for your skin to fully heal so you can put your best face forward.
